Roots Meditation

A creative and peaceful way to feel grounded is to practice a roots meditation. To do this you will need to give yourself at least 5 minutes of uninterrupted alone time.

Step One:

Lay down on your back and close your eyes. Gently align your body so that you are in a relaxed position.

Step Two:

Take note of every point of contact your body makes with the ground. For example, the top of the head, the shoulders, the backs of your arms, etc.

Step Three:

Activate a conscious breath. This could be inhaling for a 3 count (1, 2, 3)  and exhaling for a 4 count (1, 2, 3, 4). You will repeat this breathing cycle 3 times.

Step Four:

Once you feel accustomed to the breathing cycle you will incorporate visuals. On your inhales, starting at the tip of the toes, and working your way up the whole body, imagine roots growing below you. As you exhale, starting at the top of your head, and working your way down the whole body, imagine flowers blooming. Continue moving up and down the body with breath.

Step Five:

As the practice continues, take note of your visuals. Are your roots fresh and dispersed, or thick and intertwined? What kind of flowers are blooming? What do they smell like? Where do they bloom the fullest on your body? Where could you use more love? Continue the mediation until you feel more at peace.

Step 6:

Gently wake the body up by wiggling the toes and fingers. Shake your head yes and no. Move slowly and give thanks to your body!

Bonus:

If you are interested you could try and pay attention to the different colors on different areas of the body that arise during this mediation. Perhaps you will unearth something about yourself.
